Charan Mandir in Jaipur

Throughout my entire life, I have always been an upfront and enthusiastic traveler as well as a travel lover. Whenever I had some extra money, I always used to travel in hills, seas, or jungles. But this time, I planned for a religious outing as this was equally important to me. I wanted to learn about Indian mythology by exploring the spiritual places of India, thus decided to first visit the Charan Mandir in Jaipur. Later on, I got to know that Charan Temple in Jaipur is an ancient Krishna temple in Rajasthan. It is a holy place of worshipping for Hindus. Charan Mandir at Nahargarh is a place where peace prevails.

When I delved deep, I discovered that the location of Charan Mandir in Jaipur is on the way to Nahargarh Fort. It is in the middle of Nahargarh Reserve Forest. Later on, my friends told me that what I discovered, that was only the Charan Mandir at Nahargarh. It is also on the way to Nahargarh-Jaigarh. My friends also told me that, I can see the footprints of Shri Krishna naturally inscribed here.

In addition to that, there are even complex and fortified walls situated at its perimeter. Charan temple in Jaipur also preserves a large water storage tank. Also for an instance, it is a commendable aspect that, I didn’t have to face any vendors, sellers of beggars in Charan Mandir at Nahargarh. This offered me an uninterrupted journey throughout the temple.

Marigold Sunrise in Jaipur

Fortunately, I was able to capture a moment from Charan Mandir at Nahargarh which is near to the Charan Mandir in Jaipur. I found out that, with the onsets of winters, the sunrise represented the sun in a very mild avatar. Mesmerizingly it replicated the color of a Marigold flower.

It was one of my very unique and exceptional memories from Charan Mandir in Jaipur.

Summing Up

Sun Temple in Jaipur

If you are a morning person then Jaipur has a lot to offer. There are a lot of places in and around Jaipur that you can visit in the mornings to get a spectacular view of the pink city. Sun temple in Jaipur is one of the places that early risers love. Suryan Mandir or better called the Sun Temple in Jaipur, Rajasthan is the first man-made structure in the city to get the rays of the sun every morning. Surya Mandir in Jaipur as called by the locals is located on the route of Galta temple which is also known as monkey temple. In this article, I would elaborate in detail everything that you need to know including the sun temple Jaipur timings & what please you can visit around the sun god temple in Jaipur.

History of Sun temple in Jaipur

Sun temple as seen from a nearby hill

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and his courtier Diwan Rao Kripa Ram played a significant role in constructing this temple in the 18th century. The temple stands on a rocky outcrop in Jaipur and is a part of the Aravali hills. This is one of the most beautiful heritage temples across the city. I love coming here in the morning as you get a spectacular city view.

If you notice the temple in situated or rather built on the eastern side of the city. This is because the sun rises from the east as we all know.

Furthermore, Jaipur city is built on the guidelines of Sthapatya Veda. This is an ancient system of knowledge that involves the connection between the people and the places where they stay and work. This is also similar to the concept of Feng Shui.

How to reach Surya Mandir in Jaipur

There are a lot of ways to reach the temple. Let me list each one of them.

  • Easily accessible via public transport from all around the city. Local buses are the cheapest option although they are time-consuming considering the city traffic.
  • If you are multiple visitors then it is best to hire a cab to the temple. This is better than traveling in crowded buses especially at these COVID times.
  • Another way of visiting this temple is the fun way which is on a cycle. If you are fond of cycling. You get a cycle on rent and head towards the temple in the morning.

The reason why I mentioned the cycle is because of the fact that there are many trails around the temple on which you can ride your mountain bikes. No road bikes, no hybrids this is a place specifically for mountain bikers.

In fact, the Sun temple in Jaipur is a paradise for mountain bikers. So either you can connect with me for this or check out different cycling groups in Jaipur.

From Galta gate to Surya Mandir

Whatever means of commute you take you are going to reach Galta gate first. From the gate, you need to climb a cobbled pathway all the way to the temple.

This cobbled pathway is 0.71 km long and has an incline grade of 3.5%. This info I wanted to add incase you are a cyclist and want to come to the temple on your bike.

Along the pathway, you will see a lot of small temples. Each one has its own significance. When I go I make a point of spending time in each one of them. Especially if you get a chance to visit the temple in the morning be a part of the “Aarti” that happens. It is mesmerizing.

Sun temple Jaipur timings

The temple opens up at 6 AM and closes at 7 PM. When we go early we usually reach before 7 AM as we do not intend to miss the morning Aarti.

Even though Sun temple Jaipur timings are from morning 6 to evening 7, this depends on the season too. In winters make it an hour later in the morning and in evening come back an hour early. This is for obvious reasons that the nights are longer and days are short.

This place is beautiful but it is packed with wild animals. The temple priests have claimed to have seen leopards and panthers late in the evening. So just make sure that you are back before the dark and don’t stay till late.

Panaromic view of Jaipur city

From this temple, you get to view the most mesmerizing view of the pink city Jaipur. Just to see this view I go to Surya mandir in Jaipur very often.

Trails around the temple

Trails around the temple

This place is ideal for mountain bikers and hikers. It has an abundance of wild trails around which are fun to hike and ride on.

These trails are amazing and even though it gets you a little warmed up and makes you sweat they’re worth it.

Each trail takes you to a point from where you can get the panoramic city view.

For mountain bikers as I said it’s heaven as the trails are fun to ride on around the sun god temple in Jaipur.

Riding on the trails around the temple

Summing up about Sun temple in Jaipur

This is a place which is ideal for tourists as this place is away from city noise and hassle of touts, beggars or peddlers. You are going to enjoy the place if you are a mountain lover and if you love spending time in peace.

We got to Surya mandir in Jaipur almost every week with our cycling group as we get to witness peace with adrenaline-filled trail riding.

Furthermore, if you love mountains you are going to love this place.

Best sunrise spots in Jaipur

Jaipur popularly called a pink city offers you beautiful historic forts, palaces, art & culture, and being a foodie I must say amazing and delicious Rajasthani food. This place attracts both foreign and domestic travelers. I got a request from a lot of travelers asking me about the sunrise and sunset points in Jaipur. So, in this post, I am going to take you to four amazing sunrise & sunset spots in Jaipur. I cycle a lot in the mornings, so frequent encounter with the sun coming up is not new to me. I like watching the sunrise from Nahargarh a lot, as it’s my favorite place to ride. However, there are other places too, So in this article, I am going to talk about sunrise from Nahargarh, Amer, Jalmahal, and Chulgiri.

Let us talk about each one of them in detail here.

1. Sunrise from Nahargarh hill

Ask any Jaipurite, Nahargarh is going to be the favorite for most of them. Not just tourists but this place get a lot of attention from the film and television industry too. Do not get surprised if you see movie shoots happening in and around Nahargarh.

You get to see the entire city from the Nahargarh Fort. Almost!

I know you are lost in the picture above, so do not forget to follow me on Instagram folks.

But what makes this place so crazy and hard to miss.

Well, first of all, the Nahargarh fort is beautiful and depicts the rich culture and heritage of Jaipur. This place is liked by almost all the folks irrespective of age. However, you will find a lot of young crowd in and around Nahargarh.

There are two routes to this majestic palace. One is by taking a scenic road route all the way from Jalmahal surrounded by lush green plantations.

Feels like you are driving/riding to a hill station on this scenic route to Nahargarh.

The second way is through the cobbled way from the city interior.

Things to remember while traveling to Nahargarh Fort: Sunrise spots in Jaipur

  • Keep the mountain clean. Jaipurites won’t feel good if they find you littering around. Bring your trash and take it with you and dump it in a public bin later. KEEP NAHARGARH CLEAN. YOU FEEL ME!
  • There is a fee for motorized vehicles at the entry point and then in Fort and Wax Museum. Bicycles are exempted from the enter tax, however, tourists even on bikes need to pay to get the entry in the fort and Wax Museum.
  • Follow the speed limit, there have been numerous accidents. Yes, this is an accident-prone area as it has some blind turns.
  • Always give way to the vehicles climbing first. Keep the speed in control as there are a lot of cyclists on this route.
  • This is a protected area and there is frequent movement of police and army personnel. This hill holds the Indian airforce base. So, no-nonsense and no drink and driving. If you’re caught there are heavy fines with punishments.
Check my downhill ride on this dangerous route. Do not forget to subscribe folks.

So, this was all about Nahargarh which tops the list when it comes to sunrise spots in Jaipur.

2. Sunrise from Jalmahal

Jalmahal or better called as water palace is another point from where you get a spectacular sunrise view.

This palace stands proudly in the middle of Man Sagar Lake.

Jalmahal at Man Sagar Lake

I love this place. However, the fun is when you go in the early morning. It is less crowded and more peaceful. When the day progress, it becomes more crowded and noisy.

It is a bliss to watch sunrise and sunset from this place.

Caught the sunrise one fine morning at Jalmahal

There are a lot of things that you can do at Jalmahal. This is also bliss for photographers. You will find plenty of people carrying cameras here trying to capture the beauty of Jalmahal at sunrise and sunset.

This place is generally crowded and fill with tourists in the tourist season.

The entry to the palace is closed for the public as if now. You can still go near the palace in a boat, however, entry inside the palace is not allowed.

This is an amazing place to visit and is one of the great sunrise spots in Jaipur.

Things to remember while traveling to Jalmahal: Sunrise spots in Jaipur

  • Jal mahal stands just 5 km from the city. You can reach Jalmahal by taking a cab/Tuk Tuk or rent a bike for that matter. In case you need help in renting a bike let me know, I will help you. Liking the article about sunrise from Nahargarh, Amer, Jalmahal, and Chulgiri, then don’t forget to follow me on my social media profiles.

3. Sunrise from Amer Stair Way

Do not confuse this with the Amer fort. This sunrise spot is just in front of Amer Fort. There is a stairway that leads to the top of a mountain.

This is just in front of Amer Fort. Look at the picture below for reference.

The stairway you see in-front of Amer Fort leads to sunrise point

This picture is clicked by my friend Nimit, check out his Instagram profile. Furthermore, If you want to be a part of our morning cycling excursions, check out our cycling club in Jaipur.

From the top of the hill

To get to this place you need to have an average fitness level. You need to climb the stair all the way from the bottom and to the top. Stairs unlike you have at home, are centuries old and are a little tough to climb as their height is more than usual.

One thing that this place promise is a good leg workout every time you climb.

Things to remember while climbing Amer stairs: Sunrise spots in Jaipur

  • Getting to the top of Amer stairs required a moderate fitness level. Stairs are many and bigger than your normal stairs at home. So make sure that you are fit before coming to this place.
  • Carry water bottles as you are going to sweat a lot and you need proper hydration. I do not want you to feel thirsty when you get to the top.
  • Be cautious when coming down. Some of the stairs are broken and there is a chance that you may slip and injure yourself. Better yet see if you can get a company of a local like me.
  • When you get to the top the view is mesmerizing. The walls are small so be careful. I won’t recommend bringing kids to this place. If you decide otherwise, then do not let them go off your sight.
  • Lastly, keep this place clean, do not litter around.
View of Amer Fort when we started climbing the stairs

I am sure you cant wait to see sunrise from Amer after reading this, so get up in the morning and get some amazing leg workout.

4. Sunrise from Chulgiri

I wrote an article earlier about the Chulgiri temple. This beautiful Jain temple is located on a hill at Jaipur Agra road enclosed in the Aravali range.

This temple is a Digambara shrine, and is very peaceful and clean.

Chulgiri jain temple at top

To get to this temple you need to walk on an inclined road for about a couple of kilometers. Unlike Nahargarh or Amer, which offers you a greater challenge when climbing or riding to these places, this Jain temple is easy to reach.

You can hire a cab to get to the temple and back. You can even walk/ride to this temple and back. This is just 9 km from city center.

The reason why I like this place is because it gives you two spectacular views.

First is the Jaipur Agra tunnel.

Jaipur Agra tunnel surrounded by lush green plantations

And off-course how can you miss the sunrise from Chulgiri.

Sunrise from Chulgiri Jain temple

Sunrise from Chulgiri always is great for cyclists and runners. The sheer fact that this place even though just a couple of kilometers, provide tiring incline, and test your leg strength.

So in a nutshell, Sunrise from Chulgiri comes with a tough workout if you are not going via vehicle. So it is a delight for athletes.

Things to remember while visiting Chulgiri Jain temple: Sunrise spots in Jaipur

  • Photography is prohibited in and around the temple. Although the route and the temple are quite scenic, they would strictly advise you to not click pictures.
  • The way to the temple is a steep incline, so drive carefully and do not stop at any point on the way. People have a habit of stopping at each turn and looking at the view, which is not a good idea considering the security around.
  • The temple premises are clean and littering around will surely get you into trouble. Make sure that you do not litter around and use trash cans.
  • If you’re hungry do not worry, there is a canteen on the temple premises. They serve amazing breakfast and lunch.

Summing up the sunrise spots in Jaipur

So there were my favorite sunrise spots in Jaipur and I am sure it would be yours too once you visit them.

If you have any questions related to sunrise from Nahargarh, Amer, Jalmahal, and Chulgiri do let me know in the comment section below.

Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple in Jaipur

Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple is beautiful yet a difficult place to reach if you are riding a cycle. This is one of the iconic places on the outskirts of the pink city, Jaipur Rajasthan India. If you are going to this place on a cycle, you better be fit and healthy. The incline is steep and even in the low gears to conquer this incline, you will have to sweat a lot.

In case you need more understanding of gear shifting on cycle, read my post under the category cycling.

I hate waking up early in the morning, especially in winters. It’s less than 10 degrees in Jaipur these days. Winter is in full swing, with temperatures going down as less as 5 degrees in the morning at some places in Jaipur.

“I have been to Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple before and it was fun then, well what has changed now?”

The rules have become strict now, than ever before. We were advised to keep our cameras inside and not to click any pictures because few young guns fell while taking a selfie some weeks back. You cant even click pictures with our cellphones on the way to the temple.

“I mean really? This is exactly what happened”

I got up at 5:30 AM as we had to assemble at our meeting point. Three riders joined me at an iconic place of Jaipur, Birla Temple. My friends Saurabh, Nimit & Shreyansh, were all excited to be on top of Chulgiri hill. Primarily because Saurabh and Shreyansh were cycling Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple for the first time, whereas I and Nimit have done Chulgiri hill ride a few times before.

Route To Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple

We took JLN road and took a right turn from Trimurti circle and went riding via raja park and transport Nagar. Most of the way till “Ghat Ki Gunni” tunnel is inclined, which is a good workout flat road. From the tunnel, it’s quick decline, and all you have to do is sit on your bikes and enjoy. This leaves you right at the foothills of Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple mountain.

The Way Up

The way up is unforgiving, I mean cyclists with little or no experience have no chance of riding to the top of this hill. Even average cyclists have to stop and then catch their breath and then move further. This is because the incline of Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple hill is very steep. This is by far the steepest ride trail I have seen in and around Jaipur city. You would be surprised to know that the length of this stretch is only 2 KM from the Jaipur Agra highway.

STRAVA Details

Now there are two segments on this hill. The Chulgiri climb and the  Chulgiri downhill.

STRAVA SEGMENTS

I am also including specific details for these two segments, so the professional riders are aware of more specific terrain details.

Chulgiri Climb

Inside Chulgiri Digamber Jain Temple

Now let me tell you the temple is beautiful.

Surrounded by Aravali hills, this place is literally door to heaven during the morning. In the year 1953 is entitled as the start of the Jain sanctuary on the slopes of Aravalli. Jain Acharya Shri Desh Bhoosan Ji Maharaj picked the Aravalli slopes for building the Jain sanctuary and named the slopes as ‘Chulgiri’ Building the Jain sanctuary in the Aravalli slopes was the best test before Jain Acharya Ji, yet as is commonly said, nothing can be fixed if the soul is valid.

“Note: In case you are wondering how did I manage to get the images for this place clicked, these images are from my previous trips when the picture clicking culture was still there”
