Talking about the forests, what comes to our mind is the Wildlife – the answer to that thought is no. No, Cheetas and Leopards won’t be visiting you at your campsite, and it is safe.

You can see multiple camping resorts nearby. Now, the best part of the camp was the river flowing in the backyard of the campsite. The location, the cool breeze, the sound of the river flowing, everything looked so heavenly. You would not need a device to measure the AQI (Air Quality Index) you will automatically feel the difference there.

It is easy for you to reach your camp spot with the boards, standing by the side of the roads, to guide you to your destination. You have to climb down a rocky trail of 100m to reach your camping spot. A pro tip, if you are also looking for a good camping experience in Rishikesh, you can directly book your camp from MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, TripAdvisor, and many other sites, according to your convenience.

Also, carry your trekking shoes along with you would need them during the activities at the camp.

Starting with the stay, at the campsite, the tents are provided by the resort. So you do not have to carry any excess baggage. There were nearly 15 tents at my sight that were well-equipped with fans, coolers, beds, and a washroom attached to them.

Bonus points to the resort for this, amid covid everyone, is extra careful with hygiene, and this is where I liked my stay with the Palm Valley resorts the most. Note that there are a variety of tents, and the price ranges from 900 INR to 3000 INR for one night, which varies accordingly.

Coming to the food, they provide meals in the buffet. You can serve your meal and dine with everyone in the dining area. I came across a few people looking for non-veg food, and do not worry, you might find it at the camp buffet. In case if you want to have something else you can bring it by yourself and ask the cook to make it for you.

The customer service and the hospitality are pretty good from the Adventuria Palm Valley camps in Rishikesh. There are resort staffs and caretakers to help you out there, and they will be the ones organizing everything for you at the campsite.

Rishikesh – also known as the “Yoga Capital of the World” and considered one of the holy shrines of Shiva and other Hindu Gods, is not just about pilgrimage and meditation. Rishikesh has more to it. What makes this town of Uttarakhand draw attention to the travelers are the adventure activities like River rafting, Mountain Biking, hikes in Rishikesh, treks to the hidden waterfalls like the Patna waterfall in Rishikesh, Jhilmil cave, Kyarki Sunset Point, and not forget the pristine river Ganga flowing through it.

I went to Rishikesh recently and got a chance to hike up to this mesmerizing place. I also did river rafting and stayed at a magnificent campsite. However, being a mountain guy this place stole my heart.

Talking about an unexplored place, or should I say a less crowded gem is the Patna Waterfall in Rishikesh, named after the Patna Village.

It is at a distance of 6.5km from Lakshman Jhula and is located at Patna Village near Garud Chatti, by Neelkanth Road.

Located amid the forest, the tiny droplets of the waterfall on the lusciously green leaves make the Patna waterfall is one of the best hikes in Rishikesh.

You need at least 2 to 3 hours to explore this beautiful place. You will have to hike to reach the waterfall, which is about 1.5 km and would take you around 30 – 35 minutes from the base to go up there.

There is no such entry fee or anything; it is free of cost, but if you need to buy yourself snacks and other eatables, do carry your wallet.

Besides this, a few marks and boards are hanging on several points that will direct you to your destination, make sure you see each of them.

Also, there are stalls to satisfy your ‘Maggi With A View’ craving and snacks to fulfill your mini hunger.

Best time to Visit Patna Waterfall in Rishikesh

Ideally, the best time to visit the Patna Waterfall in Rishikesh is during the monsoon season, i.e., from July to September, with lush green forests covering the hilly area and mesmerizing for the visitors to address the scenic beauty of the waterfall and Rishikesh.

You can visit this place with your friends and family, and it is a perfect place for a Sunday outing or a mini escape spot.

During summers, you can also visit this place for refreshment and get a naturally chilling shower below the waterfall.

Some people living around the area also say that sometimes the waterfall completely dries up in summer. Hence, if you wish to visit this place during summer, contact a few locals about the hikes in Rishikesh to Patna waterfall.

Also, talking about trekking in monsoon, although it is safe, it is somewhat risky too if you are not familiar with the muddy and slippery areas of Rishikesh. And also, avoid traveling to this place after dark due to the wildlife presence.

How to Reach the Patna Waterfall

To reach the Patna waterfall in Rishikesh, you can rent a scooter near Tapovan starting from Rs 300 per day or book a cab from Lakshman Jhula starting from Rs 500 start your way and climb the rocky trail to one of the best hikes in Rishikesh.

Adding to it you can also choose walking if you have enough time to explore this place.

This is a less crowded place, with less noise and no traffic, you should visit this if you are looking to enjoy some time amid nature.

Also, don’t forget to wear your hiking shoes. They are a must because the trek would be steep and muddy. Do not make the same mistake I did, I went for this trek in my slippers.

Another way is to book your flight tickets to Dehradun Airport, i.e., Jolly Grant Airport from your place as it is the nearest airport to Rishikesh at a distance of 20km, and then you can book a cab to visit this beautiful waterfall.

One important thing is that you are not allowed to fly drones at this place as it falls under the boundaries of Rajaji National Park, and if found, legal action would be taken against the one who violates this law.

How to reach Rishikesh from Jaipur?

Finally, after a gap of 2 years, I went on a trip, Jaipur to Rishikesh. We did camping, rafting and everything that we could do in two days. It was a short trip but we enjoyed it to the fullest. In this article, I would tell you how to reach Rishikesh from Jaipur. The distance between Jaipur to Rishikesh is roughly 500 Km.

There are a number of ways by which you can reach Rishikesh from Jaipur. Let us take a look at all the modes of transportation in this article. This is going to be a detailed article in which I would cover all the modes namely, by road, by train, and by flight.

Jaipur to Rishikesh by Train

One of the easiest and less tiring ways of reaching Rishikesh from Jaipur is by train. There are two trains that can take you from Jaipur to Rishikesh. I am listing the details of both the trains below.

09609 Udz Ynrk Spl: This train operates on Monday, Thursday and Saturday’s. From Jaipur the departure is at 9:50 PM and it reaches Rishikesh by 9:37 AM. Click here to book your seat
09031 Adi Ynrk Special: This train operates everyday and it starts from Jaipur at 10:50 PM and reaches Rishikesh at 12:30 PM. Click here to book your seat

I prefer the first one as it arrives at Rishikesh by morning around the preferred check-in time for most of the hotels and camping sites.

You can book any class on the train as per your budget and the way you want to travel. The only pain point here that I can find is the below-average ticket booking system from the IRCTC.

I wasted about 2 hours trying to register an account with IRCTC. Most of the time page gives an error and at times this becomes frustrating. Having said that, if you have an active account then it’s a cakewalk to book the ticket.

The reason why I like trains is that they have fixed schedules and the arrival and departure are onset times. So there is a very negligible chance of getting late to any destination. Unless there is a train delay due to unforeseen circumstances.

Plus you get ample space to sleep on the birth so unlike a seater bus or a car you do not have to sit the entire way to your destination.

Usually, train delays in India are not very frequent so this would be the most ideal way for Jaipur to Rishikesh travel. Check out my Jaipur blog for more travel articles.

Jaipur to Rishikesh by Flight

There is no airport in Rishikesh. The nearest airport is in Dehradun known as “Jolly Grant Airport”. If you take a flight from Jaipur to Rishikesh or if you take a flight from Delhi to Rishikesh you will be arriving at Jolly Grant and then you will have to hire a cab/taxi to reach Rishikesh.

There are 3 flight operators that have direct flights from Jaipur to Rishikesh. Spicejet, Indigo, and Air India operate flights to Dehradoon.

A non-stop flight can take you to Jolly Grant airport in 1 hour and 35 minutes. I always prefer a direct flight to save time even if it costs money.

Airfare is not too much and keeps on changing. Frequent travelers usually book in advance to get cheap rates and that’s what I do. If you ask me a ballpark figure the price is usually from 4k to 8K depending on the airline that you are choosing. Air India is expensive with bad service, I prefer private airlines like Indigo and Spicejet.

The earlier flight is of Spice Jet that leaves at 6:35 AM and the last flight is operated by Air India that leaves at 2 PM. Post 2 PM there are no flights and you need to wait for the next day.

Jaipur to Rishikesh by Road

The distance between Jaipur to Rishikesh is roughly about 500 km, give and take a few km. A lot of folks prefer traveling via road as they do not want to be bounded by the fixed timings of train and flight. Rishikesh is very close to Delhi so most of the people from Delhi prefer going by road.

There are various modes of transportation that you can use if you prefer a road trip.

By Bus: There are amples buses from Jaipur that does towards dev bhoomi. These buses are both sleeper and non-sleeper. Sleeper bus is preferred as the journey takes about 10 to 12 hours and even more depending on the traffic. Moreover, I am not the kind of person who goes in a non sleeper bus, can’t sit for the entire journey. Click here to book a bus via redbus. The fare starts from INR 700 and then it depends on the bus company and the ameneties. All the buses are sanitized so don’t worry you will be safe. Check out this article on how to stay safe from COVID while traveling. Most of the buses are in the evening that take you to Rishikesh and next morning you are at your destination.
Hire a Cab: Cab is also an effective solution if you do not want to drive. The cab fare from Jaipur to Rishikesh starts from INR 8000 and can go as up as INR 25000 depending upon the vehicle type and the features. You can find cabs for hire at the bus stand itself. However, do bargain as they would charge you ridiculous amount and its not worth.
Hire a traveler: This is what we used. A tempo traveler is good if you are going in a group. This vehicle has a seating capacity of 15 to 17 and can be fun if you are traveling in a group. The only downside to this is that the space is not too much and you might find yourself cramped in small space. These travelers (mini buses) charge about INR 20 to INR 25 per Km and that does not include the state tolls and the state taxes. This can be quite expensive for a small group but great for big groups.
Go Motovlogging: I a a bike fan and I own a Royal Enfield. I have been to Ladakh as well on my bike, so if you are a bike enthusiast and want to avoid all the state taxes and tolls consider this option. The experience of riding along beautiful roads surrounded with greenry on both sides is refreshing. Believe me you will have more stories to tell if you are on a bike.

Summing Up

The most effective way of travel is flight, however, the fun of road trips can’t be ignored. On the recent trip with my group, we traveled in the traveler. Believe me, it was not fun.

We were cramped in a small space and had to sit the entire journey. I would still prefer hiring a cab or taking my own vehicle and driving all the way to Rishikesh.

I also moto vlog, so I would also recommend people who are into motorcycling to get on their bikes and cover the distance. The roads are amazing and the last leg of the journey from Haridwar to Rishikesh is an amazing experience with good roads surrounded by lush green plantations and trees. I never thought about going to “Hathi Gaon in Jaipur” when I woke up in the morning today. I have been to this place before but never intending to write an article or create a vlog. I am putting together this article for everyone who wants to visit India’s first elephant village near Amer fort in Jaipur.

Just to let you know, every elephant that you see near Amer fort dwells in this village. Hence the name Hathi Gaon in Jaipur.

I am going to break this article into understandable sections, so we cover everything without any confusion. Let us get down to it now.

Location of Hathi Gaon in Jaipur

This elephant village is close to the Jaipur Delhi Highway. From Amer Fort, the elephant village is at a distance of 3.7 KMs. So all the elephants that you see at Amer fort and nearby areas are coming from Hathi Gaon.

Hire a cab: Definitly expensive and not recommended. Anyways the can/taxi can take you only till the main gate. Even though the roadways inside the village are good for cabs/taxi, the cab/taxi onwers generally do not prefer to drive inside the park. Full of muddy water and they do not want to spend money on car wash everything they take tourists to this place. Expense: Close to 200 INR to 600 INR depending on the distance. Foreigners are being charged extra for obvious reasons.
Public Transport: Another preferred way to reach Hathi Gaon in Jaipur. Having said that only take public transports if you are ok with traveling with other folks in jam packed spaces. I do not advise this as you need to protect yourself from COVID as well while traveling. Expense: Not much just carry 100 bucks with you.
Cycling Tours: The most preferred way of reaching to this destination. We have a lot of tour operators that organize cycle tours, check out a few of them. Hathi Gaon in Jaipur and the ticket price

This is relatively straightforward. They have a board where the ticket price to Hathi Gaon is mentioned. A domestic tourist needs to pay INR 55, including a base price of INR 55. The price for a foreign tourist is INR 320. Take a look at the image below.

We rode to the village at about 7 AM and paid INR 50 per person, for which they did not give us the receipt. They explained that the ticket counter opens at 10 AM. Never the less our motto was to get inside.

Inside the Hathi Gaon in Jaipur

The elephant village holds 58 elephants and their mahouts. The village has housing for mahouts and holding places for elephants. There is a small pond in the middle of the village where elephants are given baths.

Fun fact: All the elephants in the village are females. We got to know this from one of the mahouts. This is done to keep a check on the breeding and the number of elephants. Elephants inside the Hathi gaon in Jaipur

Well-built pathways made out of stones and bricks are made especially for elephants. This place was designed in 2006 and constructed in 2010.

You can take an elephant’s safari inside the village. The charge is generally between INR 500 to INR 1000; the folks here charge extra for foreigners as quite obvious. The price can go as high as INR 2000 per person.

The village holds housing for the mahouts (Caretakers) for the elephants and has a small school for the kids. In a nutshell, this is like a small township for mahouts, their families, and their elephants. Check the signboard below in the image; the direction to the school is visible.

This housing project was very carefully created by making a destroyed landscape, and the sand was used to create small water bodies for the elephants. This place is a must-visit for your kids.

Best Time to Visti Hathi Gaon In Jaipur

The best time to visit the village is in the morning before 7:30 AM. Elephants leave by 7:30 AM for Amer fort for safaris for the tourists. Even if you come late, there will always be a few elephants there.

The reason being is now every elephant is scheduled to go to the fort as per the booking number/ID. The fun, however, is in the morning when mahouts are busy bathing them, and there is ample time for the tourists to enjoy the village and look at the daily rituals of the mahouts and the elephants.
