Winters are back again knocking on the front door. So is the festival of lights, which brings joy and a lot of opportunities to click mind-blowing pictures. I like clicking pictures at night as it offers a wide variety of light sources that I can experiment with. Moreover, you can experiment with your aperture, ISO, and shutter speed to get some phenomenal results. Over the last few weeks, I was working on creating this article on night photography. I went out with my cycling buddies and clicked quite a few pictures to make people understand the concept of clicking pictures in low light and still create magnificent art. We are going to discuss in detail night sky photography, night portrait photography, night photography ideas, and hashtags that you can use for amplifying the reach of your pictures on social media. Let us take a look at what equipment you need and stuff to keep in mind while clicking in low light.

A camera with manual mode

I would recommend a good quality camera. The Instagram image which I shared above has been clicked by a very basic DSLR. Canon 1200 D which was my first DSLR. You can check out DSLR on Amazon.

Basically, you need a camera that allows you to control settings. Features like ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. Most of the mobile devices these days come with a manual mode.

For better quality pictures and for more control over these manual mode settings you can use a DSLR. You do not have to buy an expensive camera an entry-level DSLR would do that trick. I created a video on my YouTube channel for learning the manual mode settings on Canon 1200 D to check this video below.

I use a Google Pixel phone that has an inbuilt manual mode which lets me allow to control ISO, shutter speed, and Aperture.

A tripod or a stable platform for your device

This is the most important component when shooting in low light. Fact that you are using slow shutter speeds you need to keep your camera stable. Most of the folks use good quality tripods. Check out this amazing tripod on Amazon.

However, these tripods can be painful to carry around. What I do is that I use the city’s resources to my disposal and make any surface a tripod as long as it’s not moving.

However, for beginners, I always recommend carrying a tripod for stable shots. Or till the time you are familiar with using the objects around you as a tripod.

Tip: Use an external trigger to click or use the timer feature if you are clicking stable shots.

The more control you have over these features, the more your images will come out good. I will explain in short as to what they mean.

ISO for night light photography

A measure of how much light your camera can process is called an ISO. Or in simple words, the ability of a camera to capture light around itself is called an ISO.

Slow shutter speeds need less ISO and vice versa. However, keep in mind that you use higher ISO your image can come out grainy. This grainy effect can be a boon if you are purposely inducing this effect. However, if not the pictures can look bad. Always keep a balance between ISO, Aperture, and Shutter speed for this reason.

I always try to use the low ISO but then compensate for the lighting capture with Aperture and Shutter Speed.

Tip: Use a low ISO if you are not getting too creative with your shot. This can be used primarily for night sky photography.

Aperture for night light photography

In simple words, a small opening in the lens through which light passes in the camera is called an Aperture. Below embedded diagram will clear this further.

The higher the f-stop less is the light and vice versa. So you can play around with the settings and keep low ISO and less Aperture value to get more light. night photography ideas include a lot of settings being altered. The most important component is the shutter speed. If you can learn how to control this you will get a lot of creative shots in low light. Shutter speed is the time for which you want your camera sensor to be exposed to the light.

More the shutter speed less light enters there by making the image look a bit darker and vice versa.

While clicking in low light you need to keep your camera sensor opening for a long time to capture more light. Hence you get creative shots like this.

The below-mentioned image will clear your doubts if you have any. The first picture is with a low shutter speed like 1/250 and less and the last pic is with a higher shutter speed of 8 seconds.

Capturing sky’s during night is what I love the most. I do use a higher bit of ISO and compensate my Aperture and Shutter Speed. However, mastering these things do take a lot of time. Especially night sky photography.

Manisha Valmiki – Another Nirbhaya

I was following the development of this sensitive issue very closely for the past few days. I will continue to have all the details and the developments in my daily blog section here. Manisha Valmiki was brutally raped and left for dead with her tongue cut out and her spine was broken in Hathras UP. Sadly the girl succumbed to her horrific ordeal in Delhi’s Safdarganj Hospital.

The incident happened at Hathras U.P. Well, this is not the first time something like this has happened. Hathras gang rape is what is trending on social media and news platforms.

I do not react or respond to topics like these but with social media being flooded with all sorts of reactions, just wanted to bring up as in who said what? Some people are even stooping down to the level of taking leverage of this incident to just gain attention. What has the world become!

Twitter Reactions to Manisha Valmiki tragic death!

Some tweets are gonna make your blood boil. So the moment I opened my Twitter, in the trending column I saw a hashtag trending which was #RIPManishaValmiki. This was enough to know that the smiling soul you are looking at in the picture below is no more.

The moment I clicked on this trending hashtag, I saw a flurry of tweets done by famous social justice warriors. I am gonna highlight a few, below.

Kangna’s Tweet from her official account

Kangna has been in the news lately for launching a massive justice campaign for Sushant Singh Rajput. The tweet is filled with anger and rightly it should be. I mean no women should face what this 19-year-old faced, I don’t know for how many hours. May her soul rest in peace.

There are a lot of sensible women like Kangna, who stand up for the causes when required. Now take a look at another tweet below from a handle that says it fights for Dalit rights. This is what this handle commented on Manisha Valmiki’s tragic death.

Furthermore, this is just not one tweet that you will find on twitter, there are in-fact many. These people tweeting very cleverly want to play the caste card and gain undue attention which they never deserved.

I believe social media nowadays is not for getting connected and making positive contributions, but just to gain popularity.

The tweet clearly says that no one was arrested till now as the girl belong to a minority community. However, let me show you something here. I asked the same question to Hathras police and this is what their official twitter handle communicated.

Speedy work of the police department, all the accused were nabbed.

Now this tweeter by the name Gurvinder, again mentioning the word “Dalit” wanted to gain attention here. Hathras police said that the accused were nabbed and are in custody right now. However, these people who want to bring the caste in everything that happens in India got no chill. Look at some more below.

Damini Kain who as per her Twitter handle is a student activist. God these students don’t study no more.

She retweeted another Tweet of another student activist by the name of Laxam Yadav.

This tweet has the word “Dalit” mentioned twice, don’t you think we get the meaning in the first go? Again all of these students who think that there is only one career option which exist in modern times, which is being an activist.

What will happen next in the Hathras gang rape incident?

People are way too agitated right now and with these left-wing activists getting into the picture with all their caste-based tweets will create more panic among the masses. What ideally needs to be done is let the law follow its course and decide on the punishment which these rapists need to get. I am in full support and eagerly waiting for the fast track court to lay death penalty as it happened in the case of Nirbhaya.

However, with over-enthusiastic activists and more feminists coming in the picture Hathras gang rape is gonna be trending for quite some in the news now.

I can only pray for the poor soul that she rests at a much better place where we are and I know that justice will be served for sure. However, till that time let the judiciary follow its path and make sure that we do not give this incident a political angle, which unfortunately the people do the most on these social media platforms.

Let me take you to a place where you get a spectacular view of the Amer fort. Yesterday, I along with few members of my triathlon group hiked up to this point. How to reach Amer fort viewpoint?

Before I unveil everything about this spot, take a look at this image below on my Instagram. This was captured when were climbing to the top.

You need to reach Amer fort first in order to reach this place. Reaching Amer fort is easy and there are a lot of convenient ways. From the city center, you can take the below-stated mode of transportation.

  • Regular buses from bus stand and railway station
  • Hire a can (Ola/Uber) from anywhere around the pink city
  • Hire a tuk-tuk from the city, there are a lot of them
  • Walk or run if you are into fitness, the road alongside Jalmahal is fabulous for runners and cyclists.

Reaching the Amer viewpoint is easy as it’s accessible from different parts of the city. You just need to reach the Amer fort.

So, we met around 6 AM in the morning in front of the Amer fort. By we, I mean all the members who wanted to take a hike up to this point.

Climb Start

The climb starts just in front of the Amer fort. A “Dargah” at the foothills starts your hike. From this point onward the evaluation kicks in and with each stair you climb you will feel your legs getting worked out.

With over 350 stairs to climb this does get you sweat-drenched, but the view up top is worth the climb.

The view from the top of the mountain is mesmerizing. If you are looking for a place to visit from where you can see the sun come up the horizon this is the place.

Heaven for photographers

There are a lot of scenic spots in Jaipur, however, this place is just amazing. For me, this place tops the list of all the sunrise spots in Jaipur.

If you are a camera lover you will love this place. It is heaven for photographers. Lots of different angles and different perspectives.

Once you come down after taking a thousand pictures do not forget to have tea at the stalls in front of the Amer fort. There are quite a few restaurants as well. The food is simply amazing.

I like sipping tea looking at the majestic Amer fort view in the morning.

Indian government ban Chinese apps

So I woke up in the morning and went for a cycle ride and came back after bagging around 40 km. Check out my Strava for today. Opened up social media and found this “Indian government ban Chinese app“. This is trending everywhere. If these apps were a security threat why did it take so long for the government to ban these Chinese apps? But that’s not the question I am here to ask everyone. Let us dig into detail about the Indo-china history and the tiff that we have with our neighbor for a long time. Also, yes we will look at the Sino-Indian War, the famous TikTok ban which is the talk of the town everywhere. I am also going to share the complete list of banned Chinese Apps by the Indian information and broadcasting ministry.

Before you even start framing a comment for this article let us take a look at the Sino-Indian feud history. It has been going for way too long now.

I won’t share the entire history in detail but a short version just to make you understand. If you want to read the complete history which is not mangled by the media, read it on Wikipedia.

Sino-Indian Wars and skirmishes and the ban on Chinese Apps

1962 (Aksai Chin Area in Kashmir) First Sino-Indian War

It has been happening for a long and credit goes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for not giving a stern reply to the Chinese in the first war of October 1962. Since then there have been a lot of small battles and standoffs. The standoff is because the current Indian Government is now trying to get back the land that the Indian national congress gave up in 1962.

Aksai Chin was never China’s but the poor leadership of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru gave China liberty to advance in the Indian territory and take the entire Aksai Chin area.

Final result: Chinese victory. Chinese armed forces known as PLA did not advance past the line of actual control and declared a ceasefire. Their intent was to occupy Aksai Chin and not the entire Kashmir region.

1967 (Nathu La and Cho La clashes) Second Sino-Indian War

This series of military clashes happened between India and China. We can also term this as a Second Sino-Indian War. These clashes happened near the Sikkim Tibet border at two passes namely Nathu La and Cho La.

Indian armed forces were laying fences from Nathu La pass to Sebu La. While this was happening Chinese political commissar came with the infantry and told Indians to stop laying the wire. Indians refused as they had clear orders.

Chinese went back to their trenches and after a while started firing with their medium machine guns. Unfortunately, with no cover Indian troops suffered high casualties. Post this Indians retaliated and throughout the day and night, there was continuous gunfire through MMG’s and mortars.

Cho La Clash

This occurred when the Chinese were caught wandering on the Sikkim side of the border which was under India’s control. They infiltrated on the Indian side of the territory after a small scuffle that happened at Cho la.

This clash lasted for a day and the Chinese armed forces were pushed back by the Indians. If you want to read about this in detail, check out this Wikipedia page.

2017 & 2020 Clashes (Ladakh)

You must have been hearing about the Galwan valley clash. There were actually two clashes that are now developing into a dangerous situation. The first one was the Doklam clash in the year 2017 and the second one is now ongoing at Ladakh.

No one was killed in the Doklam standoff, however, the current Ladakh skirmish resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers including an officer.

It was funny when I saw TikTok topping the list. Most noteworthy is that this app has been the center of controversy for a long time. The recent tiff between TikTokers and YouTubers made it worse for the TikTok community.

There are a total of 59 Chinese apps that are banned by the Indian Ministry of Information and technology. Follow them on Twitter for regular updates.

I personally have never used the TikTok application. TikTok ban is also a direct result of the data theft that happened sometime back when TikTok was accused of sending the user data to Chinese intelligence.

Folks, it does not matter if it’s a TikTok ban or for that matter any other Chinese app. The idea is to boycott everything coming from China.

I personally have never used any of the apps listed above, but I am sure to boycott everything that is coming from China.

The question however is that will this ban be permanent? The answer is still not known. TikTok ban happened in India, however, the ban was revoked after some time. This was done by Madras high court.

The effect of this ban will be on millions of creators who will look for other alternatives. You cant call their videos meaningful content either. So let’s wait and watch what do these creators do.

Ask any Jaipurite, Nahargarh is going to be the favorite for most of them. Not just tourists but this place get a lot of attention from the film and television industry too. Do not get surprised if you see movie shoots happening in and around Nahargarh.

You get to see the entire city from the Nahargarh Fort. Almost!

But what makes this place so crazy and hard to miss.

Well, first of all, the Nahargarh fort is beautiful and depicts the rich culture and heritage of Jaipur. This place is liked by almost all the folks irrespective of age. However, you will find a lot of young crowd in and around Nahargarh.

There are two routes to this majestic palace. One is by taking a scenic road route all the way from Jalmahal surrounded by lush green plantations.

Things to remember while traveling to Nahargarh Fort: Sunrise spots in Jaipur

  • Keep the mountain clean. Jaipurites won’t feel good if they find you littering around. Bring your trash and take it with you and dump it in a public bin later. KEEP NAHARGARH CLEAN. YOU FEEL ME!
  • There is a fee for motorized vehicles at the entry point and then in Fort and Wax Museum. Bicycles are exempted from the enter tax, however, tourists even on bikes need to pay to get the entry in the fort and Wax Museum.
  • Follow the speed limit, there have been numerous accidents. Yes, this is an accident-prone area as it has some blind turns.
  • Always give way to the vehicles climbing first. Keep the speed in control as there are a lot of cyclists on this route.
  • This is a protected area and there is frequent movement of police and army personnel. This hill holds the Indian airforce base. So, no-nonsense and no drink and driving. If you’re caught there are heavy fines with punishments.

2. Sunrise from Jalmahal

Jalmahal or better called as water palace is another point from where you get a spectacular sunrise view.

This palace stands proudly in the middle of Man Sagar Lake.

I love this place. However, the fun is when you go in the early morning. It is less crowded and more peaceful. When the day progress, it becomes more crowded and noisy.

It is a bliss to watch sunrise and sunset from this place.

There are a lot of things that you can do at Jalmahal. This is also bliss for photographers. You will find plenty of people carrying cameras here trying to capture the beauty of Jalmahal at sunrise and sunset.

This place is generally crowded and fill with tourists in the tourist season.

The entry to the palace is closed for the public as if now. You can still go near the palace in a boat, however, entry inside the palace is not allowed.

This is an amazing place to visit and is one of the great sunrise spots in Jaipur.

  • You can rent a boat and get closer to Jalmahal, however, entry inside the palace is prohibited.
  • The lake gets a lot of attention as a lot of migratory birds come to this place in the month of November. So do not litter around and do not go on a feeding spree giving them the food you eat.
  • Do not throw garbage in the lake. Keep the lake clean, there are penalties if someone is found littering around. KEEP THE LAKE CLEAN.

3. Sunrise from Amer Stair Way

Do not confuse this with the Amer fort. This sunrise spot is just in front of Amer Fort. There is a stairway that leads to the top of a mountain.

From the top of the hill

To get to this place you need to have an average fitness level. You need to climb the stair all the way from the bottom and to the top. Stairs unlike you have at home, are centuries old and are a little tough to climb as their height is more than usual.

One thing that this place promise is a good leg workout every time you climb.

  • Getting to the top of Amer stairs required a moderate fitness level. Stairs are many and bigger than your normal stairs at home. So make sure that you are fit before coming to this place.
  • Carry water bottles as you are going to sweat a lot and you need proper hydration. I do not want you to feel thirsty when you get to the top.
  • Be cautious when coming down. Some of the stairs are broken and there is a chance that you may slip and injure yourself. Better yet see if you can get a company of a local like me.
  • When you get to the top the view is mesmerizing. The walls are small so be careful. I won’t recommend bringing kids to this place. If you decide otherwise, then do not let them go off your sight.
  • Lastly, keep this place clean, do not litter around.

4. Sunrise from Chulgiri

I wrote an article earlier about the Chulgiri temple. This beautiful Jain temple is located on a hill at Jaipur Agra road enclosed in the Aravali range.

This temple is a Digambara shrine, and is very peaceful and clean.

To get to this temple you need to walk on an inclined road for about a couple of kilometers. Unlike Nahargarh or Amer, which offers you a greater challenge when climbing or riding to these places, this Jain temple is easy to reach.

You can hire a cab to get to the temple and back. You can even walk/ride to this temple and back. This is just 9 km from city center.

The reason why I like this place is because it gives you two spectacular views.

First is the Jaipur Agra tunnel.

And off-course how can you miss the sunrise from Chulgiri.

Sunrise from Chulgiri always is great for cyclists and runners. The sheer fact that this place even though just a couple of kilometers, provide tiring incline, and test your leg strength.

So in a nutshell, Sunrise from Chulgiri comes with a tough workout if you are not going via vehicle. So it is a delight for athletes.

  • Photography is prohibited in and around the temple. Although the route and the temple are quite scenic, they would strictly advise you to not click pictures.
  • The way to the temple is a steep incline, so drive carefully and do not stop at any point on the way. People have a habit of stopping at each turn and looking at the view, which is not a good idea considering the security around.
  • The temple premises are clean and littering around will surely get you into trouble. Make sure that you do not litter around and use trash cans.
  • If you’re hungry do not worry, there is a canteen on the temple premises. They serve amazing breakfast and lunch.

Plant Vs Animal Protein, which is better? Proteins are an essential component of our diet as they are primarily responsible for cellular growth and development. They help build, repair, and maintain our muscles, hair, bones, skin, and other body structures (such as enzymes and hormones). However, there is always this never-ending debate on which is better? Plant Protein Vs Animal Protein? Most of the people I encounter prefer animal protein when it comes to picking up between animal vs plant protein. We all know how important it is to have protein-based food, so let’s dig deeper.

One gram of protein contains the same amount of calories as one gram of carbohydrate, but one gram of fat contains double the calories.

However, not all calories are the same; unlike carbohydrates, excess proteins are not converted into fats.

For this reason, many people rely on high protein diets to lose weight and build body muscle.

Proteins take longer to digest as well, providing the sensation of being full for hours.

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and our body requires 22 kinds of amino acids to regain normal functionality.

As the body is incapable of producing these amino acids on its own, we must consume protein-rich foods that can provide all of them. Many plant and animal products contain proteins, but plant-based proteins are not the same as animal-based proteins.

While most proteins coming from animals contain all nine amino acids, the majority of plant proteins are incomplete. Vegetarians are able to eradicate protein deficiencies by consuming dairy products, but vegans have to be extra careful.

Grains like quinoa and soybean are known as complete sources of proteins; hence, vegans can balance their amino acids by consuming these foods on a regular basis.

Examples of animal based foods with high protein content:

When you choose your daily source of protein, it is always smart to consider the other nutrients of the food as well.

Animal proteins such as red meat and eggs are rich in iron and vitamin B12, which are absent in most plant proteins.

On the other hand, plant proteins contain an abundance of antioxidants and phytonutrients (such as carotenoids and flavonoids) that are lacking in animal-based foods.

Several varieties of meat and dairy products contain saturated fats and high cholesterol levels. High consumption of saturated fats and cholesterol can lead to obesity and the development of heart problems/coronary diseases. Drinking too much alcohol can escalate cardiovascular problems, and trigger the possibility of committing DUI/DWI crimes.

Plant fats are generally unsaturated, containing no or low cholesterol. Nutritionists frequently advise patients to replace animal fats with plant fats, as it helps them cut down cholesterol and calories without making major changes to their regular diet.

Another advantage of plant-based protein foods is that they contain higher fiber content. Fiber aids in digestion, thereby eliminating episodes of constipation.

Both plant and animal proteins have their unique benefits, so eating a combination of both is the best-case scenario in terms of health.

However, the advantages of plant-based foods surpass those of animal foods, especially for those suffering from obesity or a heart condition.

How to use the Google disavow tool efficiently

It is been a while since I wrote a blog post in my SEO category. In the last few weeks, I was extensively researching the Google link disavow tool. This bad link removal tool tells Google’s algorithm not to consider a few links when calculating search rankings. Especially those links which are low in scores and can potentially harm your rankings in the search engines. All you need to do is create a disavow file with all the links which you do not want Google to consider and submit it to the disavow tools in the search console.

Before we even begin if you are new to link building read my article on “8 effective ways to create backlinks”.

Link penalties are still happening. Yes, this is true. A bad domain authority website purposely linking to your website will do damage.

Let me answer these two questions one by one. The meaning of disavowing a link is telling a search engine that their algorithms should not consider the ranking of a particular link while calculating the SEO ranking for your website.

Why?

However, we have always believed that a link pointing to your website is always good. Isn’t it? Well not always. Webmasters have always exploited this link building feature to set up backlinks from spammy websites for their clients.

We know that a bad quality link hampers the ranking of your website and a good quality link will always increase your website score.

Now we know that poor links will affect our site ranking. So should disavow all the links pointing to our website? No, this tools have to be used very cautiously. Just do go on a link disavowing spree.

So use it with caution and be careful as a mistake can hamper the ranking of your website.

When?

So I answered why to let me explain as when you need to use this advance feature.

If you see the links pointing towards your website from either of the below-mentioned website categories then it’s time for you to report these links.

  • Websites that are created only for link promotions and sharing
  • Sites that are considered spam in nature
  • A lot of people try to embed links in comments to make sure that you use a comment filtration plugin for WordPress like Akismet.
  • Backlinks coming from non-targeted countries. E.g. my website is in English and I got a few backlinks from Russian websites. It makes no sense.

So if you see links coming from the above categories of websites, it’s time for you to remove backlinks with the Google link removal tools.

Google link disavow tool helps you to remove backlinks that are affecting your SEO score, however, You should first try to get these removed by speaking to the link owner first.

I will talk about this in the next section. So this was the answer to when you should use the link removal tool

There are a lot of tools available but I use MOZ. I did not use the paid version at the start, but now I have their paid version and it rocks.

My advice would be to start by creating a free account and check the backlinks to your website on MOZ. Once you need more extensive analysis you can check their pricing plans.

Now I checked the backlink profile and found few links pointing to my site which had no relevance to what I was blogging about.

So Moz gave me all the links which were pointed towards my site. I started copying all these spammy links in a note pad and saved this note pad file.

I named this file a disavow file. This file will be submitted to the backlink removal tool in the search console.

Disavow file has to be a note pad file with all the links that you want to disavow.

I had about 32 bad links pointing to my website. This was a huge red flag and I wanted to disavow all of them. So I sent emails to all the webmasters requesting them to remove the link or place a no-follow link attribute.

I did get a response from four sites. However, after waiting for 4 weeks now I was getting impatient. So I decided to disavow all the backlinks.

I sent emails to a lot of people who were the owners of the website links. These links were affecting my ranking and I wanted to get rid of them quickly.

There are different ways by which you can find the contact details of the website owners. Check their website, it should have a contact us page.

If not you can use the WHOIS domain finder tool. This tool will give you all the information of the domain owner including their contact details.

Just be polite in your approach and I can bet that 90% of the owners will honor your request.

So you identified the bad backlinks, contacted the owners to remove them but still, a few are left. So it is time to disavow them with the help of the disavow tool.

I hope you have created the notepad that has all the bad links pointing to your website. Keep it handy. As you need to submit this to the bad link removal tool.

Using the tool is so simple thanks to Google.

You should see a scree like the screen shot below.

Now once you click on DISAVOW LINKS you will see a warning from Google.

Now when you click the Disavow Links again you will get a pop again telling you that this is an advance feature. Also, you will get the option to upload your .txt file.

So you upload the notepad file and click on submit. You will get a small notification in the same window if your submission is successful or not.

After I submitted the .txt file I got the below mentioned notification.

There you go. It’s all done now. You should see the change in the search rankings and traffic in about few days.

Just make sure that you make this disavow file with utmost caution. Double check all the links before submissions.
